Stone mason in Saint-Julien-du-Verdon (04170)
Twenty kilometres, twenty-three minutes: Saint-Julien is the closest of the Verdon communes. The village sits on a hill of gypsum above Lake Castillon — and that gypsum changes how you approach an old wall.

The local fabric
The village hill is a gypsum outcrop, worked on site for centuries: the Fabrique quarter had a plaster mill and a plaster-and-lime kiln. Plaster therefore went into building mortars, sometimes mixed with lime, and gives the old elevations their pink cast. You are not automatically on a pure lime mortar here, and that is the first thing we check before opening a joint.
Otherwise: limestone rubble, window surrounds modelled in plaster, a génoise at the eaves and canal tile. Around the village the rural fabric is dry stone — terrace walls, huts, the small farm stores known here as casaou. Many have been abandoned. It is a vocabulary that is being lost, and one we can still rebuild.
What we do there
- Repointing and façade repair in the right mortar — lime, or lime and plaster depending on the wall.
- Terrace walls and dry stone, rebuilt without mortar.
- Restoration of village houses and outbuildings.
- Structural masonry and earthworks.
